Tribute from the CNRS

Dear colleagues,

It is with deep sadness that we learned of the death of Marc De Micheli yesterday, July 10, 2019, following a devastating stroke.

Research Director at CNRS, member of the Institut de Physique de Nice (INPHYNI, CNRS / Université Nice Sophia Antipolis - Université Côte d'Azur), Marc De Micheli has always worked for the development and recognition of our university with great professionalism and dedication without limit. His involvement in the Academic Council of our University over the past years has been total and he has always been able to bring a benevolence and a wise view on all the projects and topics that were debated within our committees.

Marc De Micheli was in charge of the "Integrated Non-Linear Optics" team at the INPHYNI. He created the OPTINIL technological platform dedicated to the production of photonic chips based on lithium niobate.

Doctor of the University Nice Sophia Antipolis, researcher within our university since 1984 after having joined CNRS, it is obvious that our site was marked by the imprints of his dynamic and innovative actions in the field of optics, non-linear optics and physics in general, in terms of research, training and innovation, particularly through his involvement within the Optitec cluster.

We extend our deepest condolences to his family and loved ones and will ensure that the memory and respect for this caring, dynamic and endearing person are preserved.

Prof. Emmanuel Tric, President  of Université Nice Sophia Antipolis
Alain Schuhl, Directeur Général for Science at CNRS
Dr Jean Marc Gambaudo, President of Université Côte d’Azur
Prof Jeanick Brisswalter, Vice-President for Research at Université Nice Sophia Antipolis
